VegfestUK Brighton Welcomes Carnivores as well as Veggies!
March 16th 17th 2013
Hove Town Hall, Norton Road
One of Europe's biggest veggie events VegfestUK Brighton returns to the South Coast for the 5th year running for a 2 day fiesta of all things veggie - and with a number of new attractions for 2013 including a comedy hour, a cinema, a performance area for live acts, a bodybuilders strength contest, a speed dating session and even a wedding - ensuring that there is plenty going on at this free event, which attracted over 5,000 visitors in 2012.
There's also a whole programme of talks, cookery demos, presentations, workshops and entertainment and for 2013 the Sunday has been designated as Family Day, meaning lots of activities for the younger ones, including cookery workshops, smoothie bikes and craft making - and this is on top of over 125 stalls all full of food, produce, body care, fashion and accessories, clothes, tombolas, caterers, campaigners and of course plenty of information about the health benefits of a plant based lifestyle, including qualified nutritional advisers.
'The show is in its 5th year, and is very much open to people who eat meat and dairy, but are looking to reduce their consumption of animal products, be it on health grounds, out of concern for the environment or for ethical reasons' says Tim Barford, the organiser of VegfestUK events. 'Many visitors to our shows eat meat and dairy and have no interest in becoming veggie, but they enjoy the different textures & flavours that quality vegetarian food provides, and they have no problem in choosing veggie options over meat and dairy several times a week. Meat and dairy reducers will find our shows a haven of alternatives to animal products and many of the samples are free to try, and can be bought at knock down prices, so it's a great way to get an introduction to the best of the plant based products that are now available. And it's a great opportunity to bring the kids along too and let them try some genuinely healthy options and maybe even learn some new cooking skills at one of the kids cookery workshops at our Family Day on Sunday'.
The show runs for two days in March 2013 (Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th) and is open from 11am - 6pm both days, at The Hove Centre in Norton Road. Entrance is completely free to the public, although donations are welcome (suggested donation £2). More information is available from the event website www.brighton.vegfest.co.uk
VegfestUK also runs another big veggie event in Bristol every year (May 24th 25th 26th 2013) - see www.bristol.vegfest.co.uk for details. Vegfest UK is also coming to London on October 5th and 6th 2013 - details to follow in mid-December 2012 on the website www.london.vegfest.co.uk
