Amazing Zone at Takepart Family Festival
Saturday 22 June 2013
Preston Park, Brighton
The Amazing Zone at Takepart Family Festival Day provides a great big welcome to families of children, young people and adults with disabilities at the popular sports taster event in Preston Park on Saturday 22 June. Local charity Amaze will be in the Amazing Zone handing out information about leisure opportunities for disabled people, as well as their very latest Compass Card and Compass Card Activity guides. The Amazing Zone, a vibrant special needs friendly area that provides a welcome to all, will be offering a full range of sports taster sessions, an opportunity to register interest in a range of brand new Compass Card Activities funded by Sport England and a chill-out zone with free on-the-spot massage for parents, courtesy of fully qualified therapists from the Anahata Health Clinic.
New to the Amazing Zone this year is a whole range of fun physical activities from Alternative Activities and yoga from Tatti Bumpkins. There'll be old favourites too, including table tennis, boccia, Polybat and multi-sports.
Amaze will also be able to point families to other taster activities outside the Amazing Zone - for example, all ability bikes in the park close to the Amazing Zone, the Adventure Unlimited climbing wall and Seagull Specials wheelchair football and wheelchair basketball.
The Takepart Family Day is the launch pad for two weeks of sports taster activities, including local community events and the Paddle Round the Pier Beach Festival on 6 and 7 July at Hove Lawns. Apart from the famous Paddle Round the Pier race, stalls and entertainment, there's also the Accessibility Beach which provides free bodyboard, paddleboard, boat and kayak taster sessions for children and young people with disabilities and special needs. Families of children with disabilities can book one of the sessions by emailing disability@paddleroundthepier.com or calling Carina on 07963 051742 or Debbie on 07717 303259. Family and carers are encouraged to join in and wetsuits and all-terrain beach wheelchairs are provided.
